Manage Time

Do you hit the ground running each day? Are you constantly trying to juggle emails, correspondence, invitations, meetings, phone calls, while trying to meet a deadline for a major project and still spend time with your family and friends? Does this sound like a version of your life?

Managing time certainly helps simplify your life. The idea is to streamline your daily life so you can focus on your bigger picture. Start by tracking your time for a day or even a whole week, to figure out exactly how you are spending your time. Then revisit your time log and decide how you would like to spend the time instead. Consider the time guzzlers that distract you during the day - how can you minimise them? Maybe you need to manage your phone use or the time you spend emailing.

Actively work on your schedule and use a diary to keep on track - this way you will actually achieve important prioritized tasks you set out to do. Plan your day ahead of time, using a weekly and monthly overview, plus a daily focus. Set aside large blocks of time or designate time zones for specific kind of activities (including quiet time for important projects). Prioritise your 'to do' list and set yourself realistic deadlines. Always tune into your body clock and tackle the hardest tasks in your peak time.

The best secrets of successful people are planning, preparation and being organised - so consider what else you can do to simplify your life from learning how to budget your personal finances, using a filing system that fits your requirements at home, setting up automatic reminders for bill payments, birthdays and family events.
