Work/Life Balance

Are you stressed out by too many demands on your life? Are you always trying to juggle home, work, social and family commitments? Do you feel there is never enough time?

We are experiencing a much faster pace at work, driven by IT, downsizing, competition, a move away from the expectation of a 'job for life', the growth in single personal households and the rise of families which both parents are working and of course our extended life expectancy. Research now shows conclusively that employers whose workforce is able to achieve a healthy balance between their working and home lives are more productive, stay in their jobs longer, experience less stress related illness and record higher morale and commitment to their company.

Achieving balance in life does not mean a 50% allocation of time between work and home life. There will always be times of natural focus as you mange work deadlines, study for exams or care for an ill relative. To start addressing your work/life balance you need to first identify what issues you are facing in your own lifecycle stage; it could be balancing a job search, managing your workload, childcare, planning a longer term career path, organising your home life, maintaining your social life while you study or planning for retirement. While striving for balance you must increase your awareness of your current situation, focus on your priorities, take responsibility, make the best decisions for your life and always take action.
